Overview

Mesh is looking for a Head of Legal to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role will lead the legal function, providing strategic guidance and expertise to support our mission of driving innovation and growth in the rapidly evolving crypto ecosystem. As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee all legal matters, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and mitigate legal risks while fostering a culture of integrity and transparency. You will report directly to the Co-Founder/Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities

• Legal Strategy and Compliance
  • Develop and execute legal strategies aligned with the company's business objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Monitor regulatory developments in the crypto industry and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assess legal risks associated with new products, initiatives, and partnerships, providing proactive guidance to management.
• Contract Management
  • Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of a variety of contracts, including technology licenses, partnerships, and vendor agreements.
  • Establish standardized contract templates and best practices to streamline contract management processes.
• Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and financial services
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and industry organizations to advocate for the company's interests and influence regulatory developments.
  • Lead regulatory reviews, audits, and examinations, coordinating responses and remediation efforts with Compliance, Policy, and other stakeholders as necessary
• Litigation and Dispute Resolution
  • Oversee potential litigation matters, including disputes with customers, partners, and regulatory agencies, working closely with external counsel as needed.
  • Develop strategies to minimize legal exposure and resolve disputes efficiently, including through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
• Corporate Governance
  • Advise on corporate governance matters, including board governance, shareholder relations, and compliance with corporate governance best practices.
• Compliance Training and Education
  • Develop and deliver legal training programs to educate employees on compliance requirements, ethical standards, and legal risks relevant to their roles.
  • Serve as a thought leader within the Leadership team, contributing to regulatory and legal strategy, company priorities, and team development.
  • Foster a culture of compliance and ethical behavior throughout the organization.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar association.
• Minimum of 5 years of legal experience, with a focus on technology, financial services, or regulatory law, preferably within the crypto industry.
• Deep understanding of crypto and blockchain technology, as well as related legal and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven track record of providing strategic legal counsel to senior executives and navigating complex legal and regulatory issues.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience drafting and reviewing contracts in the technology or financial services sectors.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities, including experience building and managing high-performing legal teams.
• Sound judgment and ability to make decisions in high-pressure situations.
• Commitment to integrity, ethics, and fostering a culture of compliance within the organization.
